Ione,
You are right about true systemic yeast; it generally occurs only in
immune-compromised individuals. This is why we sometimes have difficulty
convincing health practioners that a mom may have a yeast infection
within her milk ducts. For lack of an official term, we have sometimes
called this "systemic yeast", or "systemic breast yeast"; I now have
started calling it "ductal breast yeast", to be more specific. This
really is a legitimate problem, and immune deficiency has nothing to do
with it for the most part. Lactation just seems to bring out some unusual
things in our bodies that we may not see at any other time in our lives,
and the problems that this may cause a mom are very real, if not widely
understood.
