Jon,

Thanks for the info. about MJ's pamphlets, etc. Was the first sales
brochure directed specifically at physicians, and the second one
at patients? Do you have any extras you'd like to share? (Hint, hint...)

>You'll find that nursing has benefits for both you and your baby.
>However if you choose not to breastfeed (or are unable to for some
>reason), you have a right to expect other people to respect your decision.

How kind of Mead Johnson to be concerned with women's rights. I suppose
there's another statement that says "You'll find that nursing has benefits
for both you and your baby. You have a right to expect people to support
your decision to breastfeed, and a right to question your doctor about his
training in the field of lactation." ; )

For some reason, the quotes mentioned in the first sales brochure made
me think of a (1917) book I have titled "The Care and Feeding of Infants."
Here's the answer to a question about the mother's nervous condition &
its affect on the quality of her breastmilk:

Very much more then her diet; WORRY, anxiety, fatigue, loss of sleep,
household cares, social dissipation, etc., have more than anything else to do
with the failure of the modern mother as a nurse. Uncontrolled emotions,
grief, excitement, fright, passion, may cause milk to disagree with the
child; at times they may excite acute illness, and at other times they
may cause a sudden and complete disappearance of the milk."

I'll refrain from any additional sarcastic remarks that I'm tempted to
make...
(Is there an emoticon for biting your tongue?)

TTFN,
Diana
