Reading the posts from Friday on stress-related inhibition of MER, I
wonder if there aren't 2 kinds of stress reactions. When a mother
perceives her *baby* to be at risk, her MER may actually intensify - as it
did for the mothers whose babies were in NICUs. When she perceive
*herself* to be threatened - as by multiple strangers entering her room -
she does less well.
Does anyone have the reference for the refugee camp mother who kept 5
babies alive - not thriving, but alive - thru nursing? I use her as an
example when well-fed mothers ask me if their diets are "good enough". A
good example for stress, too!
(I let down during a heated debate with a visiting electrician. What kind
of stress did *that* represent??)
