Page B1 of the Wall Street Journal on 12/13/1995 has a story about The US
Preventive Services Task Force issuing new recommendations for and against
200 screening tests.
The panels report was based on a 5 year elvautaion of published evidencence
on the effectiveness of prevention measures.
One of the selected recommendations was: "counseling to prevent smoking, and
childhood injuries.
I can see nowhere in this article where promotion of breastfeeding was
included.
Chairman of the Task force is Harold Sox of Darthmouth in Hanover NH and the
vice chair was Donald Berwick, Presidenct of the Institiute for Healthcare
Improvement in Boston.
Perhaps somebody on this list knows more about this panel and the full set of
the recomendations. Surely this panel SHOULD have included SOMETHING about
BREASTFEEDING in this document. IF they did not do this WHAT A GLARING
OMISSION!
