Sorry if this was already posted, and I don't want to step on
anyone's toes; I thought it was alarming enough to pass along...it was
originally posted on the midwife list. I apologise if this was already
addressed.

Subject: Primary Milk Insufficiancy?

Hello list members,

I have a question about a woman who had her son last week. She had no
changes in her breasts during prgnancy, and has very little breast mass (nice
nipples but no breasts to speak of). She called me from the hospital after
being home for 5 days. Her baby was frantic, dehydrated and has lost 3
pounds!

Seems she isn't producing milk. I was surpised that she didn't metion this
to me before she went to the hospital. I gave her advice but I have never
dealt with this type of problem as it's VERY rare. Does anyone have
experience with PMI? I am hoping that we can use the SNS and get her making
some milk, time will tell. Any suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks all,

Rain Taylor DEM
