After lurking around in LACTNET for about a week , I am finally ready to
introduce myself. I recently became certified as a CLE through the UC San
Diego extension program and am planning to enroll in the Certified Childbirth
Educator program in Fall 1996. I am running a fledgling private
practice/retail station and am also teaching pre-natal BF classes.
I have two sons a 3 1/2 year old whom I BF for 6 weeks (sore nips etc. you
know the story.... I was the classic case, supplemented said I didn't have
sufficient milk etc..)
and I have a 12 mo old who I am still BF. I decided about 2 days after
weaning my oldest son that I had made a terrible, awful mistake, but did not
know anywhere to turn for help. So I made it my business to educate myself
and I am soooo glad that I did. Nursing has been wonderful for the past year
and I wouldn't have missed this for anything, I am only sorry my oldest
did/will not receive all the benefits. The whole first year of his life he
spent with ear infections at least every 8 to 10 weeks, it was awful!!!
I am so glad that LACTNET is here as a resource for me, as I need to keep
myself as current as I can, I have also joined my local ILCA affiliate as
well as ILCA and intend to sit for the IBLCE when I have enough hours. On
the issue of free advice. I find myself doing a lot of this at this point in
my "Career" I do not yet feel comfortable billing for phone consults, In
homes are a different story, but I usually include my fee in the retail
purchase and set up of a pump. Any advice for me??
Thanks again for LACTNET I am learning every day.
