I would love to provide opportunities for new LC's to gain more experience or
to observe how I do my job. The logistics of this, however, makes it almost
impossible.

I receive a call for help and usually schedule to see the family within the nexthalf day. In the meantime, I need to make sure that my black bag is stocked
with what I will need for this client, someone in my family knows where I will
be, my blood sugar is ok, I eat if it is mealtime, I change into semi professional clothing, I have a car with gasoline, etc. To call someone else and expect
that person to also be able to drop everything and meet me somewhere so that we
could arrive together at the client's house is expecting too much.

I am hoping to open a store with a consultation room. Then it will be almost
easy to have someone observing.

An additional problem, is that the client needs to give permission prior to
the mentor ariving on her doorstep and I want to be sure that this is a client
that can cope with the additional stress of having a learner along and the dec
rease in rapport that would result from the additional person present.

When I worked in the hospital and had someone learning from me, I usually already knew the patients and would occasionaly keep the learner away for various
reasons. This is harder to anticipate when the only contact has been by
telephone.

Maybe some of the other responses will have some solutions for what I see as
problems.
