My wife has gone back to school at The University of Georgia to pursue a
career in Finance. Our son, Tanner, is almost 3 months old and they both
love breastfeeding. She needs to pump once between classes, but she is
unable to find a location that is suitable. She asked one of her
proffessors, whose response was "No, there is no where on campus for
something like that. The need just doesn't exist. Use the
bathroom."!!!!!!!!! Of course my wife was furious and was not about to let
this professor get away with such a comment. She asked her if she wanted to
take a lunch break in the bathroom! This is so sad to me. In a time where
smokers are able to assert their ??rights?? to continue a habit that is
unhealthy to themselves, me, and the earth, it seems odd that there is so
little support for a woman who desires to do something not only healthy for
her, but for our world. I contacted my colleagues at the Community
Breastfeeding Coalition (a private org. that supports bf efforts in the
community). They said they have already tried to establish a pumping
station, but none of the university officials were listening!! We are going
to push this issue, and I would like your support. When we are ready to
present our program, I will email everyone with the appropriate email and
snail-mail addresses to send letters.
Its sad that we will have to go to such lengths to accomplish something
so simple, especially when other interests groups get their programs started.
I just wanted to share this sad sign of the times!!!!!
