I'm looking for suggestions to help a mother who's committed to long-
term breastfeeding even though her baby doesn't seem to be. Mother is
a Bradley instructor and worked very hard to get nursing going well.
Mother is back at work but pumps 2 times and nurses at lunchtime.
Things were going OK until she started solids about 3 weeks ago at 6
months. Now baby only nurses well at 5 AM feeding. At most other
feedings he snacks (5 minutes or less). He also takes 6-8 oz of EBM by
bottle at daycare in the afternoon. Mother offers breast before
solids. She reports he has never sought breast for comfort--just food.
Often he'll nurse for 2 minutes, fuss, arch and become distracted. She
really feels he's not getting enough breastmilk, and she can't pump as
much as before. Baby really likes solids.
Thanks,
