The mother can try holding baby's chin down while suckling and releasing
pressure when pauses to improve nipple compression.  Prone positions also
seem to help these babies compress less.  See: Sore Nipples: a New Mother's
Nemesis, July/Aug 1989 Vol.14 MCN by Marsha Walker and Jean Driscoll.

For massage: using a feather light touch with the pad of the index and/or
middle finger gently massage the infants cheek starting just above the ear
and moving downward along the mandible. This can be done while nursing or in
between.  Babies usually love being touched in this way.
