Perhaps I misread an earlier post, but I thought the person who originally
wrote to Parent-L also posted the same message on NICU-NET and that it was
on NICU-NET that she got the rather nasty (certainly negative) response.
Be aware that NICU-NET is a select (invitation only) list that appears to
appeal only to neonataologists and neonatal nurses who work in NICUs and
the like. Many of these individuals are, I am sure, supported by formula
company money, and I am sure as well that they are less experienced than
many on LACTNET re: how to/whether to/should they help mothers breastfeed.
Dettwyler's post was outstanding, but I doubt it will change minds. (I
would LOVE to be wrong on this point.)
Good luck informing others on NICU-NET. If any of you go on, be aware of
the backgrounds of the majority of posters to that list and write
accordingly (ie with some degree of control and LOTS of references!) :-)
Def. of LC service: "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities
brilliantly disguised as impossible situations."
