Hi all:
Was asked to post some info from AAP News, 11(8), August 1995: 1. Reports of
baking-soda poisoning, which can be fatal, has been attributed in some cases
to the use of baking soda as a home remedy for inflammatory mouth diseases,
e.g. thrush (not certain if anyone still recommending this remedy--warrants a
CAUTION if not a contraindication); 2. Breastmilk is being recommended for
infants diagnosed with cystic fibrosis due to its offering optimal fat and
carbo absorption, as well as having enzymes which counteract pancreatic
insufficiency, incl. taurine--important in bile-acid conjugation. Question
from LC who sent AAP News info: Is anyone seeing more mastitis which is not
responding to antibiotics that have worked well in the past? How long do you
wait before recommending changing antibiotics? What have you found to work in
these resistent cases? Karen G.
