Pat Gorman quoted a Healthy Start supervisor's remark to the
effect that WHO thinks "a child has the right to divorce
their parents". Well, now, I hate to disappoint the
supervisor but there is no evidence anywhere in WHO's
cumulative policy statements, or even in the reports of the
expert groups that advise it, that would support this view.
This is not the first time this particular red herring has
been raised, however; it's brought up every now and again,
apparently on the basis of a statement made by a private
individual attending a consultation organized by WHO's
Regional Office for Europe (Copenhagen) more than a decade
ago. From the comment of an individual, no matter how
influential, to WHO policy is quite a hike!
