my husband had a terrible history of allergies (esp. to formula) as an
infant/child. Now he semms allergic to less. He's allergic to lobster and
more recently has had mild itching rxn to shrimp. Seasonal allergies 2x's per
year. Our oldest (now 9) was exclusively breastfed until about 51/2 months,
and continued to breastfeed until he was about 31/2 yrs old. (I'm not really
sure when he completely quit). It wasn't until he weaned, about two - four
months later that he had his first asthma attack. That first year post
weaning was the worst with frequent medications and resp. txs for breathing
problems. Each year has gotten progressively better. This last year he even
has had a couple of colds with NO wheezing and has not had to be on any
breathing meds. Interestingly I ate peanut butter every day of my pregnancy
and probably every day I was breastfeeding him and he is deathly allergic to
peanuts in any form. Even being in the same room with other kids eating
peanut butter has led to a need for medication due to wheezing. I also loved
milk and he is allergic to that too. He can drink milk (from a cow) without
any allergic symptoms now, but he hates milk. I avoided peanut butter and
peanuts while pregnant and breastfeeding 2nd child, (most of the time) but we
don't know if she's allergic. We have treated peanut butter like poison
around here for so long, she won't touch it. The only hint our oldest had of
asthma was of wheezing when he had a cold (until after he weaned). But he had
his 1st cold when he was 1 year old and rarely ever was sick after that
(until he started preschool).
