Kathleen -- I've just been thinking about this morning after getting a load
of that new book "Bottle Feeding Without Guilt" -- many of the quotes in the
book comes from on-line discussion groups (Prodigy, AOL, etc.). The
research was done before either LactNet or Parent-L got going, apparently.
The author quotes many many (hundreds) of people's posts to these on-line
discussion groups. Usually she just gives their first name, but at least
once I saw first and last names mentioned. I think it will be worth a
letter to the publisher asking them if they know that this is not legal.
While the technical legal aspects may still be somewhat murky, the
assumption is that everything you post is copyrighted to you, and may not be
reposted without permission.
This book reminded me of Rush Limbaugh -- full of half-truths,
misinterpretations, complete lies, and a *very* poor understanding of the
medical literature. It was sad.
