Melissa,
Your detailed tale of the terribly emotional and accusatory discussion that
transpired a few years ago on the Parenting Bulletin Board gave me chills.
People must realize that when they argue - noboby is right, for the most
important thing we must be striving for these days is unity, in our
families, in our work, towns and countries. I don't mean that there isn't a
right and true answer...based on scientific data, but rather that there are
ways and then there are ways to get to a consensus, without stepping
(jumping, stomping) on peoples toes (read: feelings, self-worth).
And now that I have said those nobel words, may I share the little phrase
that some of our Australian LC friends came up with at the end of the
recent ILCA conference? One of them, I won't mention names but she is a
lovely gal with a great sense of humor (she knows who she is!), came
rushing up to me as I filled out my evaluation forms and said:
"Look, Roberta, at what we of Australia have come up with to describe what
formula really is!"
Ok, guys, here is what she wrote: (please note the vertical placement of
the words and their beginning letter....enough said.) {was that tactful
enough Kathleen A.?}
Formula is a: Substitute
Human
Infant-feeding
Technique
Please forgive me if I have offended anyone....I am merely passing on what
those from 'Down-under' created. I hope I won't get kicked off Lactnet for
my impertinence! (or was that impudence...opps)
Adios
Roberta
