Kathe,
I teach breastfeeding, infant care and early pregnancy classes for a
local hospital. Attendance was rather low, and they recently enacted a
new "program" that has dramatically increased attendance to all except
the early pregnancy class, which had been excluded.
We now offer a free car seat to those couples who complete one of two
lists of classes (one for first-time parents, one for repeaters). Each
couple has a card with the two formats and all needed classes listed; as
they attend the class, the instructor signs off; a completed card is then
turned in and a carseat given in exchange after delivery.
Mother must take a regular or refresher childbirth class, a c-section
class, infant care (first time parents) and either breastfeeding or
working & breastfeeding. My attendance has definitely risen since then,
and I'm loving it! Had 25 people in my last class....
