The best source for bf statistics for the last few centuries for Europe
would be in the books by Valerie Fildes.  One is titled "Breasts, Bottles,
and Babies" but she has several others.  I have one reference on bf in
colonial America I will try to remember to post that when I go into my
office this afternoon.
