I am often faced with mothers who seem to want "permission " to wean due to
whatever difficulty they are having. With theese mothers I have learned to
ask them " what do you want to do?" I reasuure the mom that indeed their
baby will grow, and thrive, and love them whichever feeding method they
choose but that there are advantages to breastmilk that formula can't touch.
Usually after going over the health benefits moms are willing to try a
little longer now that they have a support person, and sometimes a little
longer is all it takes! Then I give them a plan of action for whatever
choice They make. This way mom makes an informed decision, and I help her
do what she wants.
