Here are a few ideas/phrases I've heard or used that seem to give moms in
trouble a boost. Any others?

1) At this point, your baby is mostly suffering from performance anxiety.
You know she can do it, but she's not so sure. With every successful
nursing, her confidence will build and she won't get so nervous when she's
brought to breast.

2) It's not fair for you to be forced into a weaning decision now, when
you're in pain. Pump for a few days, and when you're healed and nursing
is comfortable, then you can make a *choice*, rather than having a
decision forced on you by circumstances.

3) (This from a local PNP/IBCLC) I think it's just gonna take this
little guy some time to get it all figured out. It may take him 3 weeks
or a month, so we'll get you going with a pump and we'll keep him fed
while he gets this figured out.

4) The reason he gets so upset at your breast is that nursing is the most
important thing in the world to him. If something you really want is
dangled in front of you and you can't have it, you get really frustrated.
When it's out of sight you calm down. He doesn't cry because he hates
nursing; he cries because he knows he'll love it, and he can't stand not
being able to do it. He may take the bottle but he doesn't have a love
affair with it; he knows where heaven is, and we'll just have to help him
get there.
