Becky-
I deal with an certain population that does not nurse for the first
few days but uses abm during that time. They all want to nurse once the
milk "comes in" but not before. I find that a small percentage go on to
nurse with lots of supplements, but most have lots of problems and never
make much milk. However they are very reluctant to give up the bottles even
when their milk is in. This group of women have been my most difficult
dilema!! I think the idea that bfing will be ok if no subsitute is given
before to be the most logical explanation. Now, any ideas about convincing
these moms to nurse the first few days? I'd like to get some information
written in Creole regarding this subject. The problem is that many women
who speak Creole don't read since the language has not been a written one
for too long, and only women who have gone to school read French. We miss a
large segment of the population. What about a video? (I really don't mean
to be making generalizations!! I know that there are many well educated
women who speak and read Creole, but I'd like to reach those who don't!)
Thanks-
