Dear Cathy: My understanding of weaning is that it is a process which
begins at the first introduction of any food substance other than breast
milk. After that initial introduction, the process can take a very short
time (e.g. if mom has to wean within a day or two), or weeks or months
(or years!). The child is completely weaned when no longer breastfeeding
at all. Hope this helps. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
