Martha, I hear the same comments about similar pumps. Too often I hear,
"This pump hurts like the dickens, and I don't get any milk out and it takes
forever, but other than that, it is a good pump..." Is it woman's lot in life
to suffer through everything? You'd think so to hear some of these women who
don't even question the fact that the pumps they are using don't work.

While it would be great to see Consumer Reports do something on breastpumps,
I almost shudder to see how it would be done, who would do it, and what the
results might be.

One alternative for us as professionals, is a book that Kittie Frantz put out
last year and updated this year and will come out with a revised edition next
year, I believe. It is the "Breastfeeding Product Guide" and in it she
compares the various features of all kinds of products we might come in
contact with or have a reason to suggest, including breast pumps (large,
small, electric, manual, battery), breast pads, cups, shells, creams, feeding
tube devices, storage bags, pillows, tote bags, discharge kits, and other
misc. products. She and her students/staff tested various aspects and also
included info from the manufacturers, and she is much less biased than I am
about some of the pumps in particular. She will tell when a certain feature
is better for some moms than another, and when a feature or item is overkill
for other moms.

Note: I do not own stock in her company and so will gain nothing by posting
this..... :-) I hope I haven't gone beyond the guidelines for Lactnet.
