Dear Martha,
I'm not sure this is the info your looking for but if you are asking about
IMS (insufficient milk syndrome)and dehydration,I can once again pull from
the abyss of information I gathered at the LLL conference. I went to a panel
by Betty Crase on "Hot Topics and counseling strategies when little,
conflicting or no research exists". We talked about IMS as one of the hot
topics for 95 and she says the recent figure of 5% is not accurate. If you
go back through the research to see where that figure evolved from you find
it had no scientific basis. That Neifert,
in Colorado BF Update 1995 (Winter 3:1:1-2), lumps mothers problems along
with babies problems in the 1-5% from that study. I believe Action News 1995
(winter) states the figure as closer to 1 in 2,000 rather than 1 in 20. I
hope this helps or rather helps you to see that it all seems to be educated
guesses as of now.
