This is to introduce myself as a new subscriber to LACTNET.
My name is Dr Felicity Savage, and I work in the Programme
for the Control of Diarrhoeal Disease (CDD Programme) at the
World Health Organization, Geneva, with responsibility for
breastfeeding. We have developed a 40-hour pack of
materials "Breastfeeding counselling: A training course"
in collaboration with UNICEF which is being used in a number
of countries for training health workers in the clinical and
counselling skills needed to support breastfeeding mothers.
This is part of the globabl Baby Friendly Hospital
Initiative. From 1991-1993, I was ILCA International
Delegate, and was privileged to attend several ILCA
conferences. My background is community pediatrics, with an
emphasis on child nutrition, and I have lived and worked for
18 years in developing countries - Zambia, Indonesia, and
Kenya, and now travel to many other countries for shorter
periods. I have two sons, both students, both breastfed well
into the second year. I look forward to learning from
all other subscribers to lactnet. Cheers - Felicity.
