Greetings!

President Clinton sent the enclosed message to LLLI in support of the
National Breastfeeding Awareness Week. Liz Baldwin asked
me to put it out on the 'net. Please distribute this to any interested parties.
[I'm sending this to Parent-L, to the LLL web sites, ParentsPlace, Baby
Web, Donna Z's glorious site, and
requested postings to misc.kids, m.kids.preg, health & alt-support.bf].
If you also want to fax a copy to your
local press by Aug. 7th (yeah I know it's late - we just got this today)
that would be great too. I've also attached the letter sent by the
Director of Correspondence and Presidental Messages which puts some
restrictions on using the message. If you're going to post Pres.
Clinton's message you probably should include Dorskind's as well.

I'm not a member of this list so please send questions directly to me.

TIA,

Cheryl Gowing

                         THE WHITE HOUSE

                          WASHINGTON

                        August 1, 1995

Greetings to everyone observing National Breastfeeding Awareness
Week, sponsored by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA).

This week is a fitting opportunity to focus on the benefits of
breastfeeding. Many health care professionals agree that breastfeeding
enhances the growth, development, and well-being of an infant by
providing an excellent source of nutrition and a strong natural defense
against allergies and infection. Breastfeeding also helps to deepen that
special bond that links mother and child.

Increasing the number of women in the United States who breastfeed
their children is a high priority in my Administration's Healthy People
2000 Objectives. By observing this special week, we are moving toward
our goal of improving the health of women across the nation and ensuring
that their children get a healthy start in life.

Best wishes for a successful and informative week.
