Hi, I'm an LC in private practice in Scottsdale and have been lurking on the
'net for a couple of weeks and loving it.
I thought you'd like hearing about my personal experience in 1974 with US
for mastitis right here in the the USA.
I'll tell you what I remember, but don't ask for particulars as I was a
first time mom, 2 wks P/P and pretty loopy with a l03.5 temp.
My doctor was the late Dr. Ettinghausen of home birth fame in the LA area.
He wasn't in when we called his office, but the chiroprator who shared
office space with Dr. E. told me to come in and he'd do ultrasound for the
infection. I didn't even know what US was .... remember this was 1974.
Anyway, he did the US and I was completely well within hours. And have
never had mastitis since in 56 months of lactating. The chiroprator was
pretty casual about the whole thing, as though this was standard treatment
for breast infections.
I was happy to read the mail coming from Australia about this. I've asked
many lactation experts about this over the years and everyone thought I was
nuts. So I figured I was either (a) very lucky that the mastitis had
cleared spontaneously or (b) hallucinated the whole episode!
