Interesting notes on nausea while pumping. My co-worker, Linda Zeccola,
offers this
suggestion:
I wonder if this is related to the fact that there are exytocin
receptors in the large
intestine so that during breastfeeding, the uterus is stimulated and
large intestine could be
too, perhaps causing some gastric distress. I would think double
pumping would increase
the stimulus. Speaking of strong reactions to pumping, I had a patient
once who was 3-4
weeks pp and every time we tried to use a pump (of various kinds) she
became very faint
and had to lie down. She was fine with hand expression. About a month
later, she was
able to use a pump without a problem.
