These kids are really a challenge. Debbie, you didn't say if the
baby cried when he popped frequently off the breast: Does he give
the impression of being in pain or of being annoyed? My
questions/suggestions are: does position change alleviate the
situation at all? Does the mom wear perfume, body lotion, talc,
strong-smelling doedorant, etc. that the baby may object to? Has
she tried changing the environment/ambience (more noise/less
noise, more light/less light, music, room, chair, talking to
him/not talking, etc.)? Some kids get REALLY aggravated at being
expected to nurse with a poopy or wet diaper. Could he be a very
early teether? This kids have us running in every which direction
trying to help them, we know they're trying to tell us something,
and if we could just understand...... Good luck, and let us know.
