Beverly:

Concerning your question about output. Jack Newman Director of the Toronto
Breastfeeding clinic suggests to expect just a few wet diapers on days 1-3
(I have read 1-2 day 1, 2-3 day 2, 3-4 day 3) then he suggests 4-5 heavy
diapers day 4-5, with 6+ heavy diapers by day 6. I think the problem with
many physicians and nurses is that they use bottle fed newborns as the gold
standard where output is concerned, when you are pouring formula in on day
one and two there is going to be a greater output. Also many people forget
about the large volume of fluid per body weight that newborns have, remeber
the earthquake in Mexico city when a baby was found alive after being buried
for more than a week thanks to that extra body fluid.

Thrush:

Jack Newman also feels gentian violet is the best treatment for candida
albicans. He says it works almost always, relief is rapid, it is messy and
only should be used for three days even if no relief occurs, he also says
only treat if discomfort is experienced by baby or mother.

I loved the information on cabbage leaves we have been trying to locate more
information and if someone wants to e-mail me the article I would appreciate it.
