Well, I found a solution, but I don't always keep up as I should.
I use Eudora, and size the window to leave a few inches on the right side of
the screen. Then I open my word processing program, (I am using Word right
now), and have started 3 or 4 documents for saving stuff. I size this to
the right side of the screen. Once you size it, it opens at that size every
time, so it is easy to do.
Then I read a digest. I mark what I want to keep and copy it to the
clipboard (I have windows - control c), click in my document where I want to
put it, and paste it there. (control v). I break my document down into
topics, and put the note under the topic I want it under. Sometimes I just
paste it in, and edit it later. Then I delete the Lactnet digest, but hold
it in my trash mailbox for awhile before I finally delete it, as I have
several times read something in a future digest that made me want to go back
to the old one and see what it was coming from..
Another trick is to click reply when you go to read a digest. With Eudora,
you have the entire digest before your eyes, and you can now edit out
everything you don't want to keep (mark and delete). I did this for awhile,
but I ended up with a bunch of digests with not much in them and no way to
sort them or figure out what contained what.
Of course, I have 190 notes in my out mailbox - 52 in my In box, 75 in my
Lactnet Notes box.... I guess I'm a computer pack rat too!!!
