Would that mothers were seen that early. Only a few really with-it
pediatric practices are seeing babies that early around here. What really
gets to me is the babies being referred for FTT (usually referral from a
hospital-based LC or a mother who, herself, recognizes that the baby is not
gaining) whose MD has noted that the babyis gaining poorly or not at all
and then tells the mother to uspplement and make another appt for 2 months
later!!
Ye gods and little fishes!!
I would love to hear the MDs suggest ways to encourage more of their
colleagues to pay more attention to these mothers and babies. I insist that
they return for follow-up weight checks each week. In between we are in
touch by phone going over information I ask them to keep track of
(including milk intake by means other than the breast) every other day.
Can you tell my frustration level has peaked in the past few days?
