Thank you, Katherine, for the interesting tidbit about the
Koran's mentioning of nursing. I hope that everyone appreciates
the irony of my living in the Middle East and getting info on the
Koran via the Lactnet. Tsk, tsk.
I had mentioned in a previous posting that religious Jews,
according to the Halacha, are instructed to EXCLUSIVELY
BREASTFEED for a MINIMUM of 24 months. Bfing is recommended, I
am told, for 5 years (apparently the age when boys begin their
studies), but if there are serious difficulties, a woman is
permitted to wean at age 4. Now, I don't know how many religious
women adhere to this, but I suspect that it is not many, judging
by their very closely-spaced pregnancies. This should be checked
out by someone within the community, ideally in Jerusalem. Judy
