May I advocate for the "do it yourself" routine - since that's the way I did it.
Three of us formed a study group. I'm a loooong time LLLLeader & mom of 3, &
have a BA in journalism & AAS in Paralegal Studies. #2 was an LLLLeader & mom of
3 grade-schoolers, & computer engineer by training. #3 is a hospital RN in OB,
2 kids, & former League Mom.
We qualified with IBCLE, registered for exam, accumulated the req'd CERPS, &
started preparing with the reference list (for starters) supplied by IBCLE. I
suggest organizing by subject, listing all sources you can find for easy access
when you start studying. Then make yourself a study schedule. You can do it
alone, but it's easier if you can study with 1 to 3 others you can trust to
keep up the pace. Of the 3 of us, the other 2 scored in the low 90s, a rare
phenomenon in IBCLE experience. I scored in the middle of the pack, at the top
of the bell curve. We began in November with meetings every 2 weeks. We
learned we tended to save our "assignments" for the day or two before each
meeting & didn't finish. For our own good, be increased our meetings to weekly,
evenings, 4 hrs each, to cuss & discuss what we had read. We each saw &
understood different things in the materials. Sharing helped us learn. When
one slacked off, the others tugged her back into line. Life did get in the way
occasionally, but that's expected. We stopped the end of June, and spent a
couple of meetings reviewing. Then one week of "rest" before the exam. We
chose Albuquerque over L.A. Slower pace, less stress - HA! - at least until
after the exam. Then we kicked back and enjoyed our "girls weekend out" in
Albuquerque & Santa Fe before going back to the real world Sunday evening.
Also, if you have a group, you can share expenses for reference materials and
books until you can afford to buy your own copies for your personal reference
libraries. One big factor, in addition to price, is the delivery period for the
materials. So start accumulating books while you are accumulating CERPs.
Anyway, that's my 2-cents' worth. Gook Luck & don't give up!
Phyllis
