 The woman researcher you refer to was Sandra Steingraber. She relates that story in her book Having Faith.

This reminds me of one of the first of these studies, it was done by a
woman researcher who was pregnant. When she did talks about the chemicals
in breastmilk she did it while nursing her child. To show that they may be
in milk, but were also in blood so the baby was exposed and nursing could
counter any effects.
