My mother had my brother in 1959 in Germany - my father was stationed with
the US army there. She said that the German midwives put him on her
immediately, watched until he latched on and then basically left them to
be. She remembers that they were together pretty much the whole time and
breastfeeding.
Sounds pretty perfect!
