Does anyone has a good resource that clearly spells out how a hospital
should be purchasing formula in terms of brands? I have found lots on fair
market price but nothing that spells out types ("For Supplementing", etc)
and brands.
I am trying to work with our supply manager to improve our practices. So
far, the hospital has been buying three brands of formula and rotating them
monthly to decrease perception of endorsement for one brand. New
leadership now and looking to streamline by carrying only one (likely
cheapest brand). The notion of rotation makes sense to me (I didn't enact
it; it was here when I started), but I can't find anything to support.
Also, any evidence that the brand they start on is what they should stay
on? Some providers are picking the WIC brand for all families that qualify
for WIC as they say that is what they are going to get from WIC anyway.
Either way, I have been putting the formula straight to a syringe/sterile
empty bottle before going into a room to keep from introducing a brand if
it's an isolated supplementation.
Thoughts and personal experiences greatly appreciated!
