When statements such as the following exist, especially for unproven or questionable therapies, one should not take while breastfeeding:
Pau d'arco is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when taken by mouth. In high doses, pau d'arco can cause severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and internal bleeding. The safety of pau d'arco in typical doses is not known.
The efficacy of the two acid components is not supported pharmacologically.
Only the grapefruit seed extract is compatible with breastfeeding, so the mom should find a product containing only that and probably save some money on the side.
