The analysis goes like this.

1. Breast pumps are not covered under the International Code.

2. Some breast pump companies that inappropriately market their
bottle-and-teat products are not meeting their obligations under the Code,
and thus the company is deemed non-compliant.

3. International Code analysis is nothing more than a subset of
conflict-of-interest (COI) analysis, for health workers. Every healthcare
profession (and most lactation support organizations) have some sort of
ethical code that requires that providers AVOID a COI -- both overt COIs
and implied COIs

4. Educational videos are a good thing, and parents should be able to learn
how to use various medical devices properly.

5. Educational videos shown by healthcare systems should endeavor to avoid
the implied COIs that ensue whenever products are shown. A certain amount
of it can't be avoided. There is a reason everyone reading this knows
which pump company has yellow pumps. We have AAALLlllll been bathed with
substantial amounts of marketing to us, designed to build brand/logo
*recognition,* which is the first step into building brand *loyalty.*

6. So film your videos with concern to avoid COIs for ALLLllll products
shown, not just the pumps, and do it because NO-COI rules require you to do
so. This is about MORE than the International Code. If you are showing how
to use a particular actual product, you can't avoid showing the item, or
even its logo, from time to time, right? But let's not have the machine
parked in the corner of every room, and every video shot. Let's not have
the providers using pens/badge holders/ID lanyards with company logos on
them. Let's describe the various TYPES of pumps by describing their
features without using their brand names (open-versus-closed system, for
example).
