Dear Lactnet Friends:
There are two forms of marijuana in the body: THC can be bioactive (making
someone intoxicated) and inactive (making a drug screen positive for up to
a month after use, but the person hasn't been intoxicated.).
No test yet has distinguised between them. The presence of THC is not
enough to tell one what is the impact.
Another thought: tobacco is sold in different strengths. We know there is a
difference between Gauloise or Camels and Virginia Slims. One can smoke, or
dip or chew tobacco too.
The studies showing that smoking marijuana in pregnancy makes for lower
birth weights and CNS impact replicate the studies showing that tobacco
does the same thing.
Pregnant ladies shouldn't smoke. Period.
warmly,
