Oh Marianne, how lovely to picture a mother telling their birth story to
the baby! Of course we know that oxytocin works better after intimate
conversation — and if baby is well enough to feed, the eye contact and
entrainment are likely to make it a real dialogue. I'm aware of how doulas
prioritize the telling of birth stories early postpartum. Your colleague
understands that the *essential* conversation is between mother and baby,
and if there has been trauma for either, it's essential for them to process
how they have both survived and are still together!
