My feelings are that yes, it is great to get out of the hospital and home.  That is what my daughters and d-i-l did and granddaughters have done.  BUT they had an experienced person to help them.  My objections is that there is no follow-up care after the short stay.  The only way baby is checked is if mom gets to the drs office within the suggested 72 hours after discharge.
Many years ago I participated in a program that sent moms home after a brief stay (24-36 hrs depending on time of day of delivery), mom and baby were checked on day 2 and 4 by visiting nurse and more vss if needed.  It really worked well.  What frustrates me is that we dump them out and there is no care provided in those first few days by  insurance.  The hospitals should have a plan and ins should pay for it. BTW I saw all moms regardless of status. Babies rarely had to be readmit for bili.  Pat in SNJ
