I missed the original post, but I have personally been in the ICU when
my son was five months old (I wasn't intubated, but there were a lot of
other tubes!). Nursing staff helped me pump, side-lying, one side at a
time, though I do know of someone who managed to double pump side-lying.
My husband also helped when he was in.
We discarded milk for 24 hours, but used it after that, after a case
conference between me, surgeon, anaesthetist and pharmacist. Individual
situations will vary.
