Hello -
The Dr. Susan Love Foundation is studying lactating women with the hope of
being able to create a map of the duct system to aid doctors in cancer
treatment. I just read this summary of their results and wanted to share it
with Lactnet:
https://www.drsusanloveresearch.org/blogs/research-worth-watching-breastfeeding-benefits-vs-politics
(in the fifth paragraph)
and
https://www.drsusanloveresearch.org/blogs/exploring-new-territory-our-mapping-study
What was interesting to me is that apparently the upper outer quadrant of
the breast doesn't even start to produce milk until the baby is 8 to 9
months old.
I don't know if they've published these results, but the summary is
intriguing. Perhaps there are ramifications for teaching hand expression
and breast massage?
Hilary
