Certain probiotic bacteria possess significant anti-inflammatory
properties. There have been a few published studies of using specific
probiotic strains to both prevent and manage mastitis. When chronic
mastitis hits breastfeeding mothers and repeated courses of antibiotics
fail to ameliorate the problem, then a couple of thoughts come to mind.
First a culture and sensitivity lab test should be done to determine
exactly what bacteria is present and what antibiotic it is susceptible to.
Then we could think about probiotic therapy as a means of keeping
inflammation in check. Just wondering if anyone is using probiotic therapy
for mastitis.
