I love teaching prenatal breastfeeding in a format I learned on Lactnet
years ago. I believe it is from the Australian Breastfeeding Association.

Ask that everyone (each participant- not just the pregnant person, but
including each accompanying partner or family member) will introduce
themselves, say where or when they are expecting to deliver and one thing
they have heard about breastfeeding. It can be something they think is an
advantage, a concern (often based on horror stories they've heard from
friends), a question, etc.

In my mind (or on paper as needed) I know what I want to cover, and use
their comments as a springboard to address those items. You have to be
agile as an instructor!

So for example, if someone says "I hear it hurts", I could use that to talk
about ways to attach and position, or the importance of support and help &
info on how to find it, etc.

I found this method got people talking--including the shy ones and even the
reluctant partners-- and I was able to cover the info effectively. Not
linearly. But much more engaged throughout the class than anything else I
tried. It meets the students where they're at.

I tried to find the original post about this in the archives but had
trouble getting the archives working.

I like finishing with the Baby Oh Baby video, which I think focuses on
empowering parents while giving great info.
