I've seen too many mothers in the clinic with low milk supply on day 5 of baby's life with no pumping with nipple shield use. I recommend pumping after most feeds the first 5-7 days to help promote a plentiful milk supply. Usually can decrease pumping/supplementing needs during that first outpt. visit. I tell mothers to put the work in the front end, then it gets easier by day 5-6 of baby's life. Susan in MNrn ibclc
