My daughter is looking at having breast reduction surgery done sometime in
the next year. While I have worked with lactating women post-procedure, I
don't have any experience with the ins and outs of the procedure itself and
was hoping some of you might share insight as to the questions to be asking
and what to ask for. It is important to her to try to preserve as much
mammary tissue as possible.
She has a copy of _Defining Our Own Success_ and is reading that (it's been
years since I read through it). She is in Amherst, MA and would be able to
travel to Boston or Springfield if she had recommendations for a
particularly competent surgeon. She met with a Dr. Prany Parikh as a
referral from her PCP. He claims that 4/5 of his post-surgery patients
would describe their lactation experiences as "successful"... if anyone has
any personal experience with him that would be useful too.
She is 23 and half-way across the country from me so I am trying to help
navigate this in any way that I can and of course want to help prevent the
pain that I've witnessed in women who are unable to achieve full supply for
all the issues that can occur (surgery and otherwise). She is not planning
on having children until her early 30s or later so at least time is likely
on her side.
Thank you!
