I have the same question - just from the other side.  😊
Our standard paper size here for documents  is A4.  US size is what we would call "Letter" size.  We don't waste paper - we fill the page.   We find ourselves having to adjust the US shorter pages to fit our longer ones.

Paper in the US is 8 1/2 inches x 11 inches or approx 21 cm x 27.5 cm.I find many articles and booklets  in the rest of the world are about  8 1/2  wide ( 21 cm) x 11 1/2 " or 11 3/4 " (28.5 cm or 28.9 cm)My question - why is the extra length used for just lovely margins at top and/or bottom?

Personally I would either fill the page more or use shorter paper.
I spend a lot of time cutting pages from journals from around the world so they fit tidily in the US files.

I just really want to know why paper is wasted......Pat in SNJ
