A larger flange decreases the pressures at the breast proportional to
the increased area in the nipple tunnel. She may need to double pump
until the breast using the smaller pump is comfortable, and then turn up
the pump and single pump the breast requiring the larger flange. It's
just physics.
Sometimes using a Pumpin Pals flange can help find a better balance
between nipple tunnel diameter and pressure, they have a larger variety
of sizes.
